George W. Sedlacek was born July 3, 1947, in Norfolk, Arkansas to Joseph and Anna (Murray) Sedlacek. They moved to Edgemont, SD in 1952, where he attended Edgemont Public Schools.
On August 19, 1965 he married Linda Hanes, his high school sweetheart. They were soon blessed with three children: George Jr, Gary, and Laura. He spent 20 years working for the Kustom Kraft Corporation located in Edgemont and the last 17 years of his life working for BNSF Railway.
Good with his hands, George could repair or re-manufacture almost anything. With him around, there was never a need to call a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or mechanic. Beginning in 1968, he embarked lifelong commitment to his community by volunteering for the Fire Department, Ambulance Service, Mogul Booster Club, and served two terms on the Edgemont City Council. He never asked anything of anyone that he wasn’t willing to do himself.
Kids were very important to him. He served as a father-figure to many. He very much enjoyed the time he spent with kids while coaching little league baseball, softball and even as a volunteer bus driver. He and Linda were very happy to open their home to kids who had a desire to finish their education in Edgemont Schools. His family was everything to him, his grandchildren were the light of his life, he very much enjoyed every moment he had to spend with them.
In January 2000, George was diagnosed with prostate cancer which he fought, courageously until the end. He passed away peacefully at his home, with loved ones by his side.
He is survived by his loving wife, & best friend of 45 years, Linda; his son, Gary (Jerry) of Phoenix; daughter, Laura (Amanda) of Edgemont; daughter-in-law, Sandy (Dale) Wolfcale of Wessington Springs, mother, Anna of Edgemont; sisters, Juliann (Bruce) Bown of Edgemont & JoAnn (Bill) Pond of Rapid City; brothers, Gene (Lynda) of Alliance, NE & Robert (Candy) of Ely, NV; half-brothers, John-Dean of Illinois & Brandon of Florida; Half-Sisters, Rosemary of Missouri & Harriett of Nebraska; Granddaughters, Samantha (Jeremy) Molnar of Woonsocket; Hiliary of Summit; Megan of Wessington Springs; Cay-D’ of Edgemont; & Cyler Reinhard of Edgemont; Grandson, Conner Wolfcale of Wessington Springs; and Great-Grandson, Wesley Molnar of Woonsocket; and many nieces and nephews.
